The Movement of Women Human Rights Defenders of West Africa (MFDDH-AO) is an ambitious regional initiative dedicated to the protection, recognition, and empowerment of women engaged in the defense of human rights. The MFDDH-AO was officially launched on June 13, 2024, in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) by the Ivorian Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (CIDDH)
The MFDDH-AO is an innovative program designed to foster a participatory and inclusive environment for FDDHs in the region. It is a subregional platform created to amplify their voices, strengthen their resilience, and provide an urgent and sustainable response to their specific protection needs.
The Movement is founded on the values of non-discrimination and recognition of the diverse contexts in which local human rights defenders operate. Whether addressing local or regional issues, it seeks to facilitate their collaboration with human rights protection mechanisms, connect them with other similar networks, and promote their participation in regional and international forums.
