Peacebuilding in Togo: A roundtable discussion on the shrinking civic space

roundtable discussion 3

A roundtable discussion was held at the M'Rode Hotel in Lomé, Togo, to discuss civic space and peacebuilding in the country.

Organized by the West African Human Rights Defenders Network (ROADDH/WAHRDN) in technical partnership with the Togolese Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (CTDDH), this meeting brought together national authorities and representatives of human rights organizations (HRDs).

Two panels were organized during the event. This provided an opportunity for participants to discuss the enjoyment of civic space, share their experiences, present best practices, and exchange innovative ideas. Each panel was followed by interactive debates, where participants were able to express their views and make recommendations.

The roundtable discussion provided an opportunity to discuss concerns related to the restriction of civic space and peacebuilding in Togo. Several recommendations emerged from these discussions.

The ROADDH/WAHRDN praised the commitment and willingness of state authorities to work in partnership with human rights defenders to promote an open civic space and strengthen lasting peace in the country.

This initiative is part of a joint project led by Protection International, Protection International Africa, Partnership for Justice, and ROADDH/WAHRDN, with financial support from Zivik and Protect Defenders, with the aim of making human rights defenders (HRDs) key actors for peace.

ROADDH/WAHRDN would like to express its sincere gratitude to its technical and financial partners, whose involvement was crucial to the success of this important activity. The holding of this roundtable discussion represents a significant step toward promoting human rights and peace in Togo, and demonstrates a shared commitment to working together for a more just, equitable, and peaceful future for all.
