A session of experts was held from November 26 to 28 in Lomé, Togo, to review and finalize alert and response tools adapted to the context of the subregion and to map the actors to be involved in the subregional early warning and response system.

On the initiative of the West African Network of Human Rights Defenders (ROADDH), this session aims to address the issues faced by women human rights defenders (WHRDs) in their work to promote and protect human rights in a rather tense socio-political context in certain countries in the West African sub-region.

This initiative was preceded by the project "Protection of women human rights defenders and marginalized groups facing emerging challenges in the West African sub-region,"funded by the Foundation for a Just Society (FJS). In June 2024, this led to the establishment of the Movement of Women Human Rights Defenders in West Africa (MFDDH-AO) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This movement is a program of ROADDH and aims to create an inclusive dynamic around the cause of women human rights defenders in West Africa in order to amplify their voices with a view to ensuring better protection and respect for their rights.

This project consists of subregional activities, including this expert session.

A session attended by the Consultant, members of the ROADDH Board of Directors, experts from partner organizations, and the project team.

This session was coupled with a session of the Board of Directors and Advisors of ROADDH on November 28 and 29, 2025.

As a reminder, this project is being implemented by the Ivorian Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (CIDDH). It is funded by the Open Society Foundation (OSF).
